As you are getting ready for your newborn session, here's some great news...you don't need to buy any expensive fancy clothes for your photo session! Simple, neutral colors allow your images to focus on the connection between you and your loved ones. Dads always look great in a t-shirt and jeans and if a button-up is a more comfortable style, these will look nice as well. Moms, if you are nursing, keep that in mind and choose something that will make that as easy as possible, especially if you'd like to take a few nursing photos. A long flowy shirt and leggings, a t-shirt and long flowy skirt, a tank, long open sweater and leggings are a few examples of both comfortable and attractive clothing for new moms. 

Your baby's clothes should fit well. Many babies will need a newborn-sized sleeper and some babies will need a 0-3 month sized sleeper. Whatever you choose, the ideal outfit keeps the focus on your baby, their delicate features, not the outfit itself. I actually have the sleeper in the 1st and 3rd images available to borrow if you'd like to use it.
